I’s joined the lazy union-dat’s de company foh me:
Dar ain’t no rules an’ by-laws, but we sol- emnly agree
That in the tline that passes ‘twix’ the spring and early fall
We is gwinter to take life easy an’ not do no work at all.
Dar ain’t no disputation ’bout de question of mo’ pay.
We nebber gits no money. Doesn’t need it, anyway.
It ain’t foh shorter hours dat we’s ar- rangin’ to apply.
We’d rather have ’em longer as de summer days go by.
We nebber has no meetlu’s set foh any special day:
It’s jes’ an understandin’ ‘mongst the folks who feel that way.
I don’t objec’ to people keepin’ busy as dey like..
But i’s flued de lazy union, an’ I ain’t a-gwine to strike.
