One of the Leisure Class
One of the Leisure Class.
89-8
Sure I niver wuz so happy as I am
right now
Fer I lost me job this marnin’ an
I’m free.
An’ I goes around a grinnin’ at the
min who have to work
An’ I know that they are wishin
they wuz me.
Sure ’tis little cash I’m havin’ an’ ’tis
liss I’ll have tomorrow.
Fer a loafin’ life me wad is mighty
thin,
But a gentleman of leisure I will be
until it’s spint.
An’ thin I’ll git another job agin.
Now, there’s some is mighty cheerful
whin they’re ayether much in
luve
Or roarin dhrunk or fightin’ in a
mobb
But me time ar greatest rapture is
that time av perfect bliss
Five minutes afther
Job.
I have lost me
Thin there’s money in me pocket an’
there’s sunshine in me heart
– An’ there’s not a thing on earth fer
me to do.
An’ I luks upon the fellers thot I’ve
bin a-workin’ wid
An’ I says “No more I’m slavin’ ‘
long wid you!”
Sure I niver wuz so happy as I am
right now
Fer av work an’toll an’ sweatin’ I
wuz tired,
An’. I think av all the sayin’s the
swatest wan to me
Is the boss’ gintle murmur, “Yez
are fired!”
