Because He Loved Her So
Because He Loved Her So.
133.7
‘Because I love you so,” he said.
“I will achieve the proudest heights;
The jagged rocks that loom ahead
Shall not deter me! The delights
Of splendid riches and renown
I’ll win as brave and strong men do,
If you will only cease to frown
Upon the love I offer you.”
She listened to his earnest plea
And placed her future in his care;
“Because I love you so,” said she,
“Your lot I will consent to share.”
He pressed her to his breast and cried:
“Since I possess your precious trust
I’ll win success, I’ll bring you pride;
I will achieve because I must.”
Because he loved her so he rose
A little higher day by day.
And after dealing many blows
And striving long he had his way.
Then, being rich, at last, he bought
His freedom from her and was glad
To wed with one whose years had not
Dulled any of the charms she had.
