of Valley Farmer It is one we used to sing at school when I was a child to the Tune the Old Cow Died On-Mrs Z Gil- liland, Marengo, 1111
Old Farmer John from his work came home One summer afternoon, And he wat himself down ‘neath the maple tree
To sing to himself a tune:
He sang till the cows caine running up-
That summer afternoon-
For tites’d never heard old Farmer Jolin
Attempt before a tune
Chorus:
And this is the tune which the farmer sang- Fal-ral-dal-de-di-dum
Fal-ral-di-do, fal-ral-di-do- The tune the old cow died on
The oldest cow in the farmer’s hera Attempted then the song,
But she could not get the melody The her voice was loud and strong:
The farmer laughed till the tears folled
down
His cheeks like apples red, Which made the cow so very inad
She choked and fell down dead
The jury met and the verdict read,
One summer afternoon,
‘Neath the selfsame tree where Farmer Jokn
Had sung to himself that tune;
They said that the cow would be living yet
And able to chew her cud
If Farmer John hadn’t sung that song Beneath the maplewood
