MAGDALENE.
MAGDALENE.
303.1
What were you seeking
In those days of old
Magdalene,
Ere the eyes of the Christ
Your need read, untold;
Ere the theme of his greatness
Became your sole thought- Ere the beauty of wholeness
Into your life was wrought?
“Love exhaustless,” she murmured;
“Love, deep, mighty, vast;
To fold me and hold me
A prisoner-past All hope of fleeing.
Christ alone knew- His spirit discerned me
And pardoned me, too;
And though ages have passed
And ages shall flow,
The name of the Mary
So oft uttered low A true symbol shall be
For that thirst of the soul
Which God only doth know- -In naught else to be quenched
Save in love, like the sea
Reachless in its infinity.”
