The Sick Child
The Sick Child
1664
I’ve tried so hard to go to sleep And not to fear,
But Mother dear,
It is so dark! and God won’t keep
A naughty child all safe, I know:
And I was naughty Please don’t gol
I am afraid with no one here
The dark is full of things to-night,
But if you stay
They’ll keep away,
And I’m so tired I can’t fight
Alone with them, and God will be
Too angry to be helping me,
I was so naughty, yesterday
I’ll promise not to talk a bit,
And I will try
So still to lie,
Nor toss about, if you will sit
A little while And please not scold!
The bed is all so shivery cold!
And Mother dear, I want to cry!
