Modern Lovemaking.
I looked in her eyes,
And I held her hand
As I said: “My love,
I am yours to command
To have and to hold
Till life has grown old
And has passed away like a tale that is told.”
But she answered: “No.”
And withdrew her hand;
“I am not your own,
Not yours to command;
The age to obey
Has passed away.
The New Woman takes no command to- day.”
So I changed my plea,
On my knees I sued:
She would and she wouldn’t,
I wooed and I wooed,
And with much ado
I won her; but whew!
Wait till we’re married, you’ll see who’s who.
