Board of Health

Board of Health.
69.2

The Board of Health has asked for $48,000 from Relief Fund with which to kill flies:

All about the tents and things
Buzz busy flies,
Working proboscis and wings
Winking all their eyes;
Threatening disease and death,
Says the Board of Health,
“Put some sulphur on their breath,
Murder them by stealth.”

Sulphur costs a mint of coin,
So does good carbolic,
But it pays to pay, you know,
And escape the colic.
For those busy little flies,
Carry dire affliction-
You must pay the Board of Health
To secure protection.

Lots of flies about the place,
Lots of vermin, too;
I wonder how it had the face,
The Board of Health, don’t you?
Some would steal our lives away,
Some would steal our wealth,
But the shabbiest vermin round the Bay
Is called the Board of Health.
