And his merry laugh went echoing forth
From a besom filled with joyous mirth.

‘I would toll for wealth. I would dig for gold’;
And in his heart drew many a plan.
To be carried out when he grew a man.

“‘I love to live.’ said the lover true;
‘Oh, gentle maid. I would live for you.
I have labored long in search of fame,
But found it but an empty name.’

“I love to live,’ said the happy sire,
As his children gathered around the fire.,
His heart was moved to see their joy.
And he almost wished himself a boy.
To the Editor.-Some weeks since a lady wanted
to know the last verse in “I Love to Live.” It is
this, as near as I remember:
