Out here in Dakota Where the grass is blue
We’ve a fiercer navy- The navy of the Sioux.

Summer long it’s active,
Thrilling its frown
Up and down the valley In the bankside town,
Sullen floats the murmur
Through the even’s hue
As its siege-cloud passes- The navy of the Sioux.

Dark and low and stealing
Stalks this host marine
Where the cattails’ lilting
Cast a shadow green.
Culex is its pennant;
Who can conquer you,
Anelent, stern flotilla,
The navy of the Sioux!
