The Country Store
The Country Store
1981
What times we have at the country store!
We smoke, an’ spit on the floor
While Smith weighs o our coffee and tea,
An’ acts as pleasant as pleasant can be
He’ll Noon become as rich as a jew,
But I want to say, twixt me an’ you
‘At he hasn’t a thing ‘at’ 8 worth a dime
‘At he didn’t buy of a runner on time,
But he pays his bills as they, come due,
(An’ “at”s a pointer for me an’ you)
For his wife an’ children, if he ahould die,
So far as I am able to tall,
I think ‘at he is dion’ quite won:
Savin’, I guess, a good deal more
‘An we who loaf at the country store
If we’d do the work, an’ do it right
‘At we say we’ve done: round the atove at night,
If we’d plow the ground an’ shuck the corn,
Our bank account would be a fright,
An’ not as it is-clean out o’ sight,
‘An’ we couldn’t be caught spittin’ on the floor,
Aroun’ the stove, in the country store
