The World’s Way
The World’s Way
2232
This old world’s mighty busy It has so much to do
It’s got to skip a lot o’ things that ought to be put through
An’ leave ’em fur a future day when it can rest an’ say ”
“At last we’ve got things runnin’ in some rag’lar sort o’ way-
” But till that day, true worth will very oft be thrust aside
An’ modesty be humbled underneath the heel o’ pride
The road is steep an’ hilly that this el’ world has to climb,
It ‘ud like to help the stragglers, but it hasn’t got the time
‘Tis sad to see a singel starve, as singers often do,
The old world says, “We have the song There’s no more need of you”
And honest industry is oft forgotten when at last
It’s buildings are completed an’ it’s own short hour is past
But the old world says, “We’re striv- in’ and we’re tollin’ fur height
When everyonekinn have his share of air and food an’ light
Ild like toeston each encrittee, pathetic or sublimept the time,
But till the work’s completed-why isshaven’t got the time
