When Shall We Meet Again?

When Shall We Meet Again?
2344

It was dark and dremal morn
When from my bed I did rise,
A-looking from the window
I saw to my surprise
A antior and his loving wife
A-standing in the rain:
He kirsed his only son and said
When shall we meet again?

Chorus-
With aching heart and bitter tears
In sorrow, grief, and pain
Those parting words you’ve ofttimes heard,
When shall we meet again?

He took his dear boy in his arms
And kissed his snow white brow:
He loved his dear wife to the heart
Saying “I must leave you now,
I am going to some foreign land
Across the raging main,
And when I’m gone, love, think of this-
When shall we meet again?”

In two or three weeks after this
The boy took sick and died;
His mamma held hiin in her arme
And in her ears he caled
Saying, “Mamma, mamma, mamma dear
I’m sick with grief and pain
And when you write please ask papa,
When shall we meet again?”

In three or four months after this A-knocking at the door
A postman brought a letter,
Which sad news it bore
And as she read those dreadful lines
The tears from her eyes did pour;
Her husband’s ship had struck & rock
And sank to rise no more
