AN ODE TO SOUTH DAKOTA.
AN ODE TO SOUTH DAKOTA.
Anna Quinn.
528.12
There’s a land of milk and honey
There’s a land of golden grain,
There’s a land of waving corn fields,
There’s a land of plenty rain.
There’s a land where all are happy,
There’s a land where all are blest:
And this land is South Dakota,
The wonder of the west.
Out here in Sanborn county
In the valley of the Jim,
The land is full of riches
Overflowing to the fim;
Full of great and wondrous riches,
Riches with their wealth untold- e
Btter come to South Dakota
Before all the land is sold.
Better pack your grips and satchels
And come along out west;
But stop in South Dakota
If you want to see the best.
Buy a few hundred acres
Of our level prairie land;
Buy all you can get hold of,
For the crops are something grand.
Leave the noisy crowded cities,
Leave your worn and plowed out lands
That your great-grandfather started,
And join the happy bands
That are marching to Dakota,
Where they find an open door,
We welcome all who come here,
And there’s always room for more.
Bring your wives and little children,
Bring all the neighborhood,
For Dakota is worth seein
It will surely do them good.
Let them breathe Dakota ozone,
Fill their lungs with pure sweet air;
That will cure all human allings,
Along with proper care.
Sell your twenty acre farm there,
Sell your little plot of ground;
And come to South Dakota,
Where the land is rich and sound,
Don’t farm the rocky hill sides
On four sides and on the top:
But farm a rolling prairie
If you want to have a crop.
Don’t plow the muddy ridges,
And bend with aching bones
In some ten by twenty meadow,
A digging out the stones;
While for only forty dollars
You can have the very best
Of this rich and level prairie,
If you’ll only come out west.
! Come now to South Dakota;
We welcome all who come;
And in this fertile country
You will find a happy home;
And come to Sanborn county:
Come along and bring the rest,
For life isn’t worth the living
If you do not live out west
