Driftwood

Driftwood,
240.9

Driftwood I burn on my fire tonight,
Driftwood from vessels lost at sea.
Love, Falth and Hope missed the beacon light-
As wreckage now they come to me.
Driftwood, so rugged and old and gray.

Writing in flame heart history.
Now at the close of life’s long day
My vessel’s logs are shown to me.
Rod and green and violet blue
“Fate” is the word that burns for me:

That was the rock that lost me two-
Hope’s afire far out at sea.
