In a quiet little village, not so far away.
There lived an aged farmer; his hair was thin and gray:
He had three sons, his only ones; both Jack and Tom were aly,
While Ted was honest as could be, and would not tell a lie. man’s eyes:
They planned their best to ruin Ted in the old
Their polson soon began its work, and Tel was much despised:
One day the oid man said, “Begone, you’re heart- less to the ecre.”
These were the words the black sheep said ne he stood beside the door:

“Don’t be angry with me, dad, don’t drive me from your uoor,
I know that I’ve been wayward, but I won’t be any more.
Just give me another chance, just put me to the teat,
You will find the black sheep loves you, dad, far better than the rest.”

Year by year sped quickly by, the old man he grew old.
Called Jack and Tom up to his aide and gave them all his gold:
Said: “I only need this little room, a place at your fireside.”
One night when Jack returning home he brought with him a bride.
The wife began to hate the father more and more each day.
One night he heard the three declare. “This old fool’s in the way.”
Then they agreed to send him to a peorhouse that was near
When ilke a flash the black sheep’s words came ringing in his ear.

Chorus.
A wagon drives up to the door: it is the poorhouse. van:
The brothers pointed to their dad and said, “There Is your man.
Just then a manly form appears and pushes through the crowd.
Says. “Btop, brute”; the stranger said, “This will not be allowed;
You’ve taken this old man’s property and all that he could save;
You’ve even sold the little plat that contained his wife’s grave;
For I’m his won, but not your kin. from now till Judgment day.”
The old man grasped the black sheep’s hand, the crowd then heard him say:

“Don’t be angry with me, lad, I drove you from my door:
I know that I was foolish, I’ve repented p’er and o’er:
I wish I had given you all my gold, for you have stol the test.
I find the binck sheep loves his dad for better than the rest,
