When My Ship Comes In
When My Ship Comes In
1592
To Lyell
I have launched you my craft, and the
wind and the tide
Are drifting you outward to sea:
But the ocean is round and the farther you ride
The nearer you’re coming to me
It is true I am lonely when dagdawn and dark
Drop softly o’er sea and on land,
Tin true I would have you quite close to the mark
Of our parting, but I understand
That the cargo of wealth In the submarine hold
Could never be gathered near shore
So I speed you, my own, with a hope that’s nutold
Repeating it over and o’er
That out in the years when my ship shall come home
And anchor in harbor again
The treasure withheld thro’ the gears that you roam
Will recompense all of the pain
Of waiting and watching the weary years thro’
Of missing you daytime and night
For giving the beat of my being to you
And loving with all of of my might
